Wedding at Pinicon Ridge Park and Calkins Barn
Emily & Mitchell 04.22.2022

It may seem silly to say, but I love rainy wedding days, there's just something magical about them! It's said that rain on your wedding day is a sign of good luck, because it signifies a strong and everlasting relationship. As you know, a knot that becomes wet is hard to untie- so if it's raining on the day you "tie the knot", your marriage is said to be just as difficult to undo! Maybe that's why I love the rain so much, or maybe its because we end up with beautifully moody and romantic pictures like these!
Emily and Mitchell started dating on April 14th of 2014, got engaged on April 3rd of 2021, and got married on April 22nd of 2022. I think it's safe to say April is a pretty significant month in their relationship!
I love watching high school sweethearts get married, the love Emily and Mitchell have for each other is something out of a fairytale, and something most people only dream of finding. That kind of love is rare to find but it is truly beautiful once you see it.
Although the day started off with pouring rain, it cleared up for us to get some gorgeous outside photos, and really helped to set the mood throughout the day! The ceremony was at Pinicon Ridge Park in Central City, Iowa and was truly beautiful. It was clear of rain for the first hour leading up to the ceremony, and a light drizzle started towards the end which resulted in beautiful light background noise. After the ceremony we headed up to Calkins Barn in Wyoming, Iowa where Emily and Mitchell did their grand entrance, first dance, and speeches before dinner. After dinner they cut their cake and took part in the shoe game. When asked by their wedding planner during the shoe game "who has the better in-laws" Emily and Mitchell held their own and decided they best not answer, laughing and shaking their heads as the in-laws tried to persuade the couple which side was the favorite, resulting in a hilarious moment caught by the videographer! The night carried on with lot's of laughter and dancing, then ended with a beautiful sparkler send off (be sure to check out the pictures)!
There were some emotional highlights for me throughout the day, such as seeing Emily for the first time in her dress (I always get teary eyed when I see my brides on their special day), watching her first look with Mitchell, Emily's tearful first look with her mom and dad, and a truly stunning sparkler exit! Overall it was such a beautiful wedding day filled with lot's of love for the bride and groom, I feel truly blessed to have been a part of this special day and being able to help Emily and Mitchell fulfill their vision!
Cheers to many more years filled with love and happiness to the bride and groom!
